Heriz Rug/Original Persian Rugs
Heris, a small village in the mid-19th century, charmed the world of Iranian carpet lovers and didn't last long when like its mother, Azerbaijan which due to the presence of zoraster became, once the religious city of ancient Iran, turned into the center point of Iranian carpet.
The yesterday village and today town of Azerbaijan, had so many secret like designs as its memory both from the dawn realm of the maads in the second millennium B.C. up until the sun set of the government of the Ghezelbash in the 18th century.
The high mountain range of "saplagh dagh and chousha dagh" have a very rich and green grassland due to humidity and weather condition, and has been hosting the sheep and the herd of the area who have been supplying wool to the weavers for years. The children of this area, speaking Azari dialect, have been the heritage keepers of an ancient culture which has stayed with them like each knot of heris carpet.
Raw materials, dyeing and weaving
The excellent quality of the raw materials used comes from excellent local wools and the neighbouring tribes like shahsavans, Special dyeing methods in Azerbaijan is better accomplished due to the soft Heris water and its salts make the fibers better absorb colors.
Also using the plant colors like spank, pom skin, barg-e-mo etc..., cause valuable gradually results in fiber so that each friction on the fiber looks like dusting-off the mirror so that the shining and transparency of heris carpet as old as two hundred years is unbelievable.
The unparalleled characteristics of the weaving of heris carpet can’t be observed but in the capable hands of Heris weavers who are filled with creation joy, otherwise continuous sittings by the looms, picking up dens from dens and putting knots on knots on Turkish style with a hook and putting one weft after each row of the knots and through singing "havaj lar" in the troubles and difficulties of the days, each are excuses to fulfill this creation enthusiasm.
Design and Pattern
The carpet realm lovers well know that the concept of independent character, as a cultural sign, behind the carpet of a region, is so much rare and requires cultural and historical necessities, such places are very rare in the carpet world otherwise putting a knot over another one in many places or the world is considered neither a culture not an art. Heris carpet, in the carpet world, enjoys such an independent character as far as the designs and images are concerned, that still many weavers all-over the world copy it and brand it as "Heris carpet" to introduce it to the market.
Maybe at the old days, when Tabrizi tradesmen in early 19th century, by putting up workshops in Haris area, prepare the ground for the world to enjoy such an art, did never think that at time with an illegal copying there will be an injustice imposed on Heris carpet.
The designs of the carpet based on two methods: broken and curved. On the broken method which is the base of Heris area designs, it becomes possible for the weaver to weave off his memory and without referring to a pre-designed pattern provided that the weaver is fully skilled and enjoys high and accurate concentration.
That is why this method of weaving shows the zenith of the capability of the weaver.
The design in Heris carpet enjoys a wide variety of choices. Beside the designs like medallion, sampler and afshan the corner-medallion design is the main pattern in which a big usually eight-sided medallion has turned to be the distinctive element of Hens carpet. The broken branch, medallion is the most famous of all designs and has kept its medallion style element and shah abbasi images and by using geometric composition and angled lines, has found quite an independent identity for itself among the carpet world.
The amazing variety of the images which come out of the sacred heart of the weavers and remain on the face of the Heris carpet and the exceptional play of the colors, specially madder root red, cream, lead like and purple blue, in the margins and the main field gives the carpet a charming look.
The last point to be mentioned is the amazing talent of the weavers of this area by which they create subjective models on the carpet field and more extraordinarily than that is their ability to directly change any curved forms into broken and geometric design and using them in the weaving process with no delay, Something which by itself is quite complicated and sweet at the same time.
